Dale Zum Berge Obituary

Dale F. Zum Berge, age 79 of Green Isle, died on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, Minnesota.  Funeral service will be on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, MN.  Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. ~ 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be in the church cemetery, lunch to follow in church basement.

Dale was born July 18, 1939 in Green Isle, MN to Henry and Mary (Panning) Zum Berge.  He grew up in Green Isle, attending Green Isle School and graduating from Arlington High School.  He met Gloria Wolter at a Walter League gathering and they were later married on June 20, 1959 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington, MN.  The couple had a dairy farm near Green Isle for many years, and when they weren’t working on the farm, they enjoyed going to see The Wendinger Polka Band and treating themselves to black cherry ice cream.

They were long time members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Green Isle, and have been members of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, MN for the last 20 years.  Dale was quite active and an Elder and Trustee at both churches.

Dale was an active member of the local community, serving as a long-time Councilman and Mayor for the city of Green Isle. He spent many years as a dairy leader in 4-H and a member of the Sibley County Fair Board, and his love of baseball led him to serve on the Green Isle Baseball Association Board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing in Canada, and restoring Minneapolis Moline, Case International Harvester and Oliver tractors.  Most of all, enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids on the farm, where many life lessons were taught.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria; daughter, Brenda (Brian) Becker of Hayfield, MN, Steven (Katherine) Zum Berge of Norwood-Young America and Kristine (James) Flannery of Green Isle, MN.  He is also survived by 10 Grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren and sister, Lucille Hillard of Crystal, MN, as well as many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Orville and sister Elaine.
