Marguerite (Maggie) Hessian-Gatz, age 94 of Belle Plaine, MN peacefully passed away October 24, 2019. A graduate of Belle Plaine High School, St. Catherine University, and University of Minnesota with a Master’s in Education, Marguerite became a nursing professor and Chair of the Nursing Department at St. Catherine University while being a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph. After retirement she enjoyed traveling and Pastoral Ministry at Pax Christi Catholic Community. In 2001, Marguerite married Robert Gatz, also from Belle Plaine, and enjoyed their life together traveling and being grateful for many friends and family surrounding them. She is survived by her loving husband, Bob; stepchildren, Mary, Paul, Bill, and Jim; grandchildren, Ashley (Tyler), Brianna, Trevor, Emily, Jenna, and Aspen; dear friend, Rosa; nieces/nephews, Mary Jane Simpson, Bridget Price, Marguerite Foster, Patrick and Mark Sheffer; and many extended family and friends dear to her heart. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Margaret (Nash) Hessian; and siblings, Mary (Tom) Rittenhouse, Julie (John) Sheffer, Arthur (Kitty) Hessian.
A memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 4th at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church, Belle Plaine. Fr. Roger Hessian is officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at church. Interment at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Belle Paine. Memorials preferred to Doctors Without Borders and Catholic Relief Services.
