Mary Ann (Riebe) Miller died on August 21, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Methodist Hospital in Rochester. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 26, 2019 at 11 a.m at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church in LeSueur. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Kolden Funeral Home in LeSueur and one hour prior to the services in the church. Interment will be in the Mound Cemetery in LeSueur.
She was born February 19, 1947, in St. Peter, MN, to Muriel (Anderson) Riebe and Gordon Riebe of Le Sueur, MN. On June 29th she was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais, MN, with her grandparents, Emil and Esther Anderson as special witnesses.
Mary grew and attended both elementary and high school in Le Sueur. With her parents being active members at Grace Lutheran she, with her two brothers, attended Sunday School and summer Vacation Bible School along with regularly hearing God's Love in the weekly Sunday Worship Services. After in-depth study of the Bible and Catechism, Mary was confirmed in her Christian faith at Grace Lutheran on March 26, 1961, by Rev. M. J. Wehausen. Years later, Mary was gifted with a bookcase, that she proudly possessed as long as she lived, from Pastor Wehausen's office.
During her high school years, Mary could often be found during the summer months working in the Green Giant plant on the pea and corn pack lines in Le Sueur, if she wasn't fishing bullheads at Sunderman's Creek with her brothers. After high school, Mary attended Bethany Lutheran Junior College and one year at Mankato State College. In the summers between college years Mary volunteered to teach Vacation Bible School in the inner city of Chicago. It was there that she met Dallas Miller. On September 28, 1968 they were married at Grace Lutheran in Le Sueur. They raised their three children, Janelle, Gregory and Kristine together. Mary was a stay-at-home mom and husband's everything through his seminary training in Milwaukee (Mequon), WI, and in the ministries he served at parishes in Morris and Goodhue, as Chaplain for The Lutheran Home Association of Belle Plaine and finally back at Le Sueur, all in Minnesota. In every period of their 50 year marriage, Mary, in addition to managing the home, volunteered. She was always active in the ladies' service groups, the women's mission society and assisting at the parochial schools, especially with her artistic talents. For a dozen years she helped as a camp counselor, art director and wherever needed at our Jesus Cares Ministries, "Joy in Jesus," retreats for people with "Special Needs." She loved volunteering at the Lutheran Home Association's Thrift Store and the quilt "Knotters" at Trinity Lutheran in Belle Plaine.
Being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 2017, she was treated and in remission through a stem cell transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Following a richly blessed year of health, the cancer returned. This past Wednesday our Lord decided to bring her home to His side where there is no sadness - forever.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Muriel Riebe.
Mary is survived by her husband Dallas, their children, Janelle Miller of Duluth, MN, Gregory (Julayne) Miller of Farmington, MN, Kristine (Todd) LaPoint of Bremerton, WA, three grandchildren, Eliana, Joseph, and Rylee LaPoint, and two brothers Gordon Jr. of Bernhards Bay, NY and James (Cheryl) Riebe of Spicer, MN. She will be missed.
