Mike Bigaouette, age 67 of rural Belle Plaine, passed away at his home on Thursday, August 22, 2019 with his loving family by his side. He was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of pancreatic cancer on August 5, 2019. He spent his remaining 2 1/2 weeks surrounded with family and friends.
Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 26, 2019 at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine. Memorial Mass will be at 11a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, at St. John-Assumption Catholic Church in Faxon Township. Fr. Sam Perez will officiate. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, one hour prior to mass time at church. A luncheon will follow mass. Interment will be at a later date at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis.
Michael Francis Bigaouette was born on December 24, 1951 in Shakopee to Leo and Marilyn (Krueger) Bigaouette. He was a 1970 graduate of Belle Plaine High School. Mike served his country during the Vietnam Era in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. Mike was honorably discharged in 1972 from the Army and started dairy and crop farming with his father on the family farm. He met the love of his life, Mary Ann Laabs in 1975 and just one year later they were married on November 6, 1976 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine. They continued to work the family farm and raised 5 children. Mike took great pride in the life he built with his wife and kids.
Mike had a passion for working the fields, dairy farming, and old-fashion machinery. He also loved spending time outside with his family, whether it be yard games, campfires, or having a picnic.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Ann; five children, Christina (Brian) Grant, Becky (Nick) Riesgraf, Michael (Kelsey) Bigaouette, Vanessa (Jordan) Lemmerman and Nathan (Lindsey) Bigaouette. Eight Grandchildren, Brayden, Bennett and Braxton Grant, Jada, Paisley and Easton Riesgraf, Kyle Lemmerman and Joseph Bigaouette. Mother, Marilyn Bigaouette, Siblings, Sheryl (Glenn) Sellnow, Mary (Steve) Lehman and Bonnie (Gary) Krant, Mother-in-law, Alverna Laabs, Brothers-in-law & Sisters-in-law, Dick & Patty Laabs and Rita & Ken Worm, many nieces and nephews, and his dog Callie.
Mike is preceded in death by his father, Leo Bigaouette, infant daughter, Melissa, father-in-law, Gerhard (Jerry) Laabs, and nephew, Ryan Laabs.
