STANLEY WIGAND Obituary

Stanley Geib Wigand, age 95 of LeSueur and formerly of Henderson died on Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Oak Terrace Senior Living in LeSueur.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Henderson with Pastor Deb Meyer officiating.  Interment, with military honors by the Henderson American Legion Post Honor Guard, will be in Brown Cemetery at Henderson.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church.  Kolden Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.   Stan is survived by his sister, Carmen, plus cousins and friends.

He was born February 16, 1924 in Gibbon, MN to Elsie Sophie (nee Geib) Wigand and Allie John Henry Wigand. He moved to Henderson at the age of eleven along with his parents and his sister, (Carmen Mae) who joined the family in 1930. Stan attended and graduated from Henderson High School in 1942. In early April 1943 he entered the United States Army and was discharged in early January 1946. Most of his time in the Army was spent in Germany. However a portion of his time was as a German Prisoner of War.  After being discharged from the Army he was employed by Ehlers Bros. Construction of Henderson for thirty-three years building houses, barns and other carpentry works.

He was a life-long member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Henderson where he held various positions during fifty-one years. This included being the janitor.  When he was diagnosed with cancer in 1993 he decided he better give up the janitor job but his sister stepped in and they both worked as janitors for another seventeen years until they retired.  He was a member of the Henderson City Council for five and a half years. He was also President of Brown Cemetery Association in Henderson for forty years. He recovered from the first bout of cancer in 1993 and it flared up again in 2008 until just recently for the third time when our Heavenly Father called to him and said “Come Home and rest Stan, you know I will take care of you.

At the time of his death, he was the oldest member of the extended Wigand family and also the Geib family, which is from our mother’s side.
