Thomas Callahan Obituary

Thomas W. ‘Bud" Callahan age 98 of Le Sueur, died on March 4, 2018 Mayo Clinic Health System in New Prague, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 12, 2018 at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Le Sueur, MN. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur, MN and will continue Monday morning from 8-10:30 am. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Belle Plaine, MN with full military honors.
Bud was born on October 4, 1919 to John P. and Regina (Kelly) Callahan on their family farm in southern Scott County. He attended grade schools in southern Scott and northern Le Sueur Counties.
A proud WWII veteran, Bud was drafted into the Army after the Pearl Harbor attack. He was sent to Europe late in the war and served until spring of 1946.
He married Kathryn M. Hix on April 11, 1944 in St. Peter, MN. Together they moved to Fort Stuart near Savannah, GA. After the war they built their life together for more than 57 years until Kathryn passed away in 2001.
Bud was born a farmer. At an early age he worked on his family farm, for neighboring farmers, and ultimately purchased his own farm in northern Le Sueur County. In addition to farming and his military service, Bud worked a number of other jobs. He worked at the Le Sueur Foundry, Green Giant, Le Sueur Farmer's Elevator, and later in life at Davisco in Le Sueur, MN.
He served on the Derrynane township board for more 25 years, was active in Pioneer Power, the VFW and served on the local school board. Bud and Kathryn were longtime members of the St. Thomas church.
Bud is survived by his children Michael (Lynn) Callahan of Mankato MN, Dan (Ramona) Callahan New Prague, MN, Janet Mullenmeister, Prior Lake, MN, Judith (Richard) Hanzel New Prague, MN, Jean (Lloyd) Busch Cottage Grove, MN, Jane Callahan (James Bullard), St. Louis, MO and his brother John Callahan of Delta Junction AK. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Brother-in-law, William Hix and sister-in-law, Carol Callahan.
Bud is preceded in death by his wife Kathryn, infant sons James and Thomas Callahan, parents John and Regina, sisters Regina (Dolly) Moriarty, Patricia (Patsy) Lundsford, Marie Hayden; brother, "Jimmy Pat" Callahan and son-in-law Michael Mullenmeister.
