Toy Huber Obituary

Ivona (Toy) Catherine Huber, 92, of Belle Plaine passed away on November 21, 2019 at Kingsway Memory Care after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Visitation will be on Monday, November 25, 2019 from 9-10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 10:30 a.m. Fr. Brian Lynch will officiate. Interment will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Belle Plaine.

Toy was born on October 5, 1927 to Joseph and Catherine Weiss of Glencoe.  She grew up and graduated from Glencoe High School.  After high school, Toy moved to Belle Plaine to help her sister and brother in law run O'Hagan's Hi-Way Bar and Grill.   During that time, Toy met Mark Huber.  On January 27, 1948, they were married.

After raising three children, Toy began working with her husband in the family owned Huber’s Red Owl Store which later became Huber’s Supervalu.  Toy was a hard worker and the store provided her with a variety of jobs that kept her busy. She worked at the store into her 80’s and finally retired when the business was sold in 2010.

Toy was an amazing cook and an immaculate house keeper.  She enjoyed preparing favorite dishes for her adult children and grandchildren. You never left her home hungry.  She loved us all passionately and would give each of us the world if she could.  There isn’t a holiday that goes by that we don’t think about how perfect and memorable she made each one. Thank you, dear Mother.

She is survived by her children, Joe Huber of Belle Plaine, Bill (Lois) Huber of Belle Plaine; and Mary Kay (Todd) Proshek of New Prague.  Grandchildren, Timothy (Paula) Huber, Jennifer (Chris) Witt, Daniel (Kristen) Huber, Patrick Huber, Katie (Andy) Stoterau, Nick (Stacy) Huber, Tom and Kelly Huber, Paul (Tina) Proshek, Katelyn (Tyler) Koonst.  Great-grandchildren, Bryce and London Witt, Ella, Addie and Audrey Stoterau, Tristan and Avery Huber; Ben and Will Proshek, and Katie and Grant Koonst; by brother-in-law, Jim (Lu) Huber of Canby and sister-in-law Mary Jaros of East China, MI; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Katherine Weiss,  husband, Mark, sister, Germaine O’Hagan, brothers-in-law, Barney O’Hagan, Art Huber, John Huber, Fran Huber, Graham Jaros; sisters-in-law, Leona, Pat, and Margaret Huber and nephew, Bob Huber.
