Alphonse A. Gill, age 85 of Belle Plaine, died on October 31, 2011 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Our Lady of the Prairie Church in Belle Plaine. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Alphonse was born on July 27, 1926 to Joseph and Eva (Dorzinski) Gill in Derrynane Township, Le Sueur County. He attended country schools and graduated from New Prague High School in 1945. He farmed and worked for O'Brien Plumbing and Heating for 38 years. He married Mary Ann (Karnitz) on October 6, 1962 in St. Thomas Catholic Church in Jessenland. After they were married, Alphonse and Mary Ann built a house in Belle Plaine and have lived in town ever since. Alphonse was a member of the Knights of Columbus, enjoyed hunting and going to baseball games. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister in infancy, Gertrude; brothers, Alois and Hilary Gill; sister, Beatrice (Joe) Stepan; and brother-in-law, Russell Kane. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Ann Gill of Belle Plaine; Siblings, Cecelia Kane of New Prague, Joseph (Pat) Gill of Annandale, Norbert (Betty) Gill of Belle Plaine, Rose Mary Gill of New Prague, Sisters-in-law, Agnes Gill of St. Thomas, Joyce Gill of Milwaukee, WI and Shirley (Kenny) Krant of Belle Plaine and many nieces and nephews.
