Alphonsus J. Morrisette

Alphonsus "Al" Morrisette, age 92 of Belle Plaine, died Tuesday, November 19, 2103 at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 26 at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. Fr. Michael Kaluza will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Arlington. Al was born on June 6th, 1921 to Harry and Catherine Morrisette on a farm near Henderson. When he was one year old, they moved to the farm near Blakeley, which became the family farm. He attended rural country school, and one year at Arlington High School. He obtained his GED at age 53. He was drafted into the Army in March 1945. He spent the summer at Camp Hood, Texas in the combat infantry learning to fight Japanese. His training ended at the same time that the Japanese surrendered. He was then sent to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii where he served in the military police. While there he served as guard for General Eisenhower who made a stop there. He was in Hawaii for a year. He received his discharge at Camp Beale, California on Dec. 20th, 1946. He returned to the family farm with his parents and his sister, Marion. They cared for their parents until they passed away. They moved to town September 1971. He worked as a farm hand, bus mechanic, and driver in Belle Plaine. He drove for 3 years for Kock Bus Company out of Waconia to the Catholic school in Winsted. He also worked during school hours at Litfin Lumber Co. He worked for 7 years for MN Valley Nursery near Jordan. He worked 14 years for Huber's Super Value in Belle Plaine. He cut and sold hundreds of cords of wood in the river valley. He took guided tours that covered the entire west, Hawaii, Mexico, Alaska and Ontario. He was a member of the Legion Post 144. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marion Morrisette and Mabel Haupt, brothers-in-law, Clifford Carlson, Rueben Carlson and Frank Haupt, sister-in-law, Rose Morrisette, nephew, Larry Carlson and great-niece Kelsey Eberle. Al is survived by his sisters, Monica Carlson and Mary Alice Carlson, brother, Joe Morrisette, many nieces and nephews, and special friend, Bobbi Kelly.
