Alvin J. Bergs, age 92, of Arlington passed away Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Ridgeview Sibley Medical Center in Arlington. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 5th at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington with Pastor Bruce Hanneman officiating. Interment in the Arlington Public Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to service time Wednesday at the church. Kolden Funeral Home of Arlington is handling the arrangements. Alvin John Bergs was born on June 6, 1921 in New Auburn Township to Peter J. and Alvina (Hildebrandt) Bergs. He was baptized on June 26, 1921 at Zion Lutheran Church in New Auburn Township by Pastor Adolph Hoyer. He was confirmed on March 25, 1934 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn by Pastor Hans Werner. Alvin grew up in the New Auburn area and was married to Lorraine Lucht on May 12, 1942 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Arlington by Pastor John Bradtke. Alvin and Lorraine made their home in the Arlington area until 1959 at which time they moved to rural Green Isle, and subsequently, to their retirement home in Arlington in 1993. Alvin loved farming as well as working in road construction for Litfin and Moskop. He also hauled livestock, gravel, silage, and can milk. Alvin was a member of the Arlington Golden Age Club. He enjoyed playing cards, music, dancing and playing his concertina. Most of all he enjoyed being with family, especially teasing his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was the "good fairy" of his family. Alvin is survived by his Wife, Lorraine; Son, Marlin; Daughter, Luanne Schuette & Husband Gary; Grandchildren: Kevin & Lisa Bergs, Colin Bergs, Wanda & Todd Lambert, Troy & Stacey Schuette, and Tracy & Mike Besse; Great Grandchildren: Kyle and Brandon Bergs, Dylan, Ashley and Alex Schuette, Kayla, Tanner and Connor Besse; Sister-in-law, Lea Blumke; many nephews and nieces. Alvin is preceded in death by his Son, Roger; Daughter-in-law, Lila Bergs; Parents & Parents-in-law, Herb & Selma Lucht; Brother, Irie Bergs and Sister, Luella Schroeder; Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law, Mayme Bergs, Edwin Schroeder, Melvin Lucht, Victor & Marion Dahlke.
