Anton Richard Throldahl

Anton "Tony" Richard Throldahl, Jr., 82, went to be with his Savior on Tuesday, December 21, 2010. Tony was born in Millsap, Texas to Betty Dee (Doss) and Anton Throldahl on October 20, 1928. He grew up in North Mankato and graduated from Mankato High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 369th Shore Battalion, working as company clerk from 1951 to 1953. After finishing his term in the military, he attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter from 1954 to 1957, graduating magna cum laude with a degree in Business Administration. After graduation, he was employed by US Steel in Duluth as a system analyst working with the IBM 650. Later, he transferred to Joliet, Illinois, where he installed an IBM 1401 for US Steel and developed a high level of expertise in business computing. In 1962, he was recruited by Green Giant Company and he and his family moved to Le Sueur. At Green Giant, he held the position of Director of Systems Programming, Operations and Telecommunications. He worked for Green Giant for 22 years and retired in 1984. From 1985 to 1987, Tony did freelance consulting work. During this time, he was the accounting controller of the Minneapolis Heart Institute. Tony was instrumental in computerizing the Institute's manual accounting system. Tony married Lorraine Emilia Freitag of St. Clair, Minnesota on September 13, 1953. Tony was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Le Sueur from 1962 to 1977, where he also served as elder. In 1979, he became a founding member of the Word of Life Lutheran Brethren Church in Le Sueur, where he continued to serve as elder emeritus. Tony was a life long student of the Bible, participating in many Bible Studies over the years. Additional to serving as an elder and on multiple church committees, he also taught adult Sunday School classes. His hobbies included camping, fishing and golf. In retrospect of his life, Tony once commented that he didn't leave a long list of accomplishments, but he did more than leave a list behind. He has left a long and abiding legacy with his family and his friends of strong faith in the Lord. His relationship with Jesus Christ has been a witness to both his children and his grandchildren. Tony is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine and their 6 children, Karen (Bill) McWaters of Rochester, Susan (Ronald) Marks of Ramsey, Judy (Keith) Lillquist of Muskego, WI, Eric (Velma) Throldahl of Rogers, Amy (Shawn) Stroud of Moorehead and David (Barbara) Throldahl of Plymouth and a brother, Bobby Throldahl of Colorado Springs, CO; and 15 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his mother and father and a son, James Allen. Funeral services will be held at Word of Life Church in Le Sueur on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.. Rev. Craig Jennings will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, December 27 at the Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur amd also one hour prior to service time at the church. Interment will be in Mound Cemetery in Le Sueur.
