Arlys Willis

Arlys Marie Willis, age 79 of Arlington passed away Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 12 ^th at First Lutheran Cemetery in Glencoe. Rev. Ron Mathison will officiate. Please bring a chair if you wish to be seated and a mask if you are not able to social distance at the gravesite.

Arlys was born on August 25, 1940 in Litchfield to Elmer and Marie (Koester) Zum Hofe. She was baptized on September 15, 1940 at First Lutheran Church in Glencoe by Rev. Alf. Streufert. Her confirmation also took place at First Lutheran Church, Glencoe on April 11, 1954 by Rev. A.H. Fellwock. She married Don Willis on December 27, 1967 by Rev. R. F. Meissner again at First Lutheran Church, Glencoe.

Her work career began with a teaching position in Lester Prairie and continued on at St. John’s Lutheran in Norwood Young America and Trinity Lutheran in San Angelo, Texas. After returning back to Minnesota she served as secretary at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe and entered retirement after Young America Corporation.

Arlys loved teaching, playing organ and church activities. She enjoyed being part of the bowling league and liked to travel, especially to the East Coast. Her greatest joy of all however was spending time with her family.

Arlys is survived by her children; John Willis and Julie Willis, her brother Allen Zum Hofe, a niece and nephews and other relatives. Arlys is preceded in death by her mother Marie Zum Hofe, sister-in-law Linda Zum Hofe, her father Elmer Zum Hofe, and husband Don Willis.
