Arthur Dahlke

Arthur Dahlke, age 91 of Green Isle Township, rural Arlington, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at the Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Green Isle Township. Visitation will be 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington and one hour prior to service time Saturday at the church. Interment will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Arlington Public Cemetery. Arthur Henry August Dahlke was born in Arlington Township on February 12, 1919 to Herman and Dorthea (Meyer) Dahlke. He was baptized at the family home and confirmed in 1933 at Zion Lutheran Church, Green Isle Township. On February 12, 1946 he married LaVerna Bluemke at Zion Lutheran Church. Arthur served his country during WWII in the Army Medical Corp between April 1942 and November 1945. He spent 26 months overseas, mostly in Europe. He was a sergeant when he was discharged. Arthur and LaVerna lived and farmed east of Arlington for approximately three years and in the fall of 1950 moved to a farm north of Arlington. Arthur farmed his entire life. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, gardening, fishing and nature observation. He was happiest when working. When things broke he commented that he "could probably fix it" and usually could. Mr. Dahlke is survived by his wife; LaVerna of Arlington, children; Richard (Mary) Dahlke of Dassel, Edith Severson of St. Paul, LeRoy Dahlke of Spicer, Maynard (Janelle) Dahlke of Arlington, and Rita Dahlke of Bloomington, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, brother; Harry Dahlke of Chicago, Ill., sisters-in-law; June Dahlke of Waconia and Louise Schwirtz of Arlington. Arthur is preceded in death by his daughter-in-law; Darlene Dahlke, son-in-law; Mike Severson, 4 brothers; (Alfred, Elmer, Marvin and Erwin) and 5 sisters; (Clara Pinske, Sylvia Lucht, Alma Schmidt, Velma Baumchen and Norma Vigren).
