Bonnie was born February 7, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri. She lived in Arkansaw, WI until she graduated from the eighth grade. She then moved to MN graduating from Mahtomedi High school in 1948. Bonnie married Gene Spychalla in 1949, enjoying 58 years of marriage until his death in 2007. Bonnie and Gene made their home in White Bear Lake until 1960 when they moved to Le Sueur to manage the Ottawa Fur Farm until retiring together in 1988.
They were blessed with two daughters, Shirley and Marilyn. Bonnie enjoyed playing cards, relaxing at their lake cabin and spending winters on South Padre Island, TX. After retirement, Bonnie and Gene spent countless hours researching Gene’s family history through many trips to cemeteries and visiting with relatives. Their work resulted in books of family history to be passed on to the next generation to carry forward. Bonnie found joy in hosting friends and family, especially on all of the holidays. Her love for friends and family was expressed through her exceptional cooking. No one ever left hungry. Her Recipes were hard to get as the ingredients were rarely measured except by look, taste and love.
Bonnie’s love for animals was a life long passion. In recent years, her days were filled with the love and constant companionship of her beloved cat, Lucy. Though her last years brought challenging mobility issues, she faced each day with hope, courage and dignity. An inspiration to her family her legacy lives on in the traditions she nurtured, the memories she created, and the love she gave so generously. Her children are grateful to have been raised in a loving, happy and secure home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Spychalla. Parents, Ed and Lucille Sullivan. Infant sister, Marilyn and brother Dennis. Son-in-law, Joe Orloske.
Left with loving memories are children: Shirley Ziebarth (Tim), Marilyn Orloske. Grandchildren: Ingrid Marino (Jim), Tanya Ziebarth, Paul Orloske, Tiffany Deziel (Paul), Elizabeth Majeski (Jake). Great grandchildren: Annabelle and Camille Marino. Adeline, Etta, Silas and Henry Deziel. Meghan, Annie and Wyatt Majeski. Sister-in-laws, Gen Bodin, Ruth Spychalla and many nieces and nephews.
Bonnie’s spirit will continue to guide us and her unconditional love will be our constant comfort.
