Carl A. Nuessmeier, age 84 of Le Sueur, died Thursday, June 12, 2014 at his home on the family farm. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18 at Zion United Church of Christ in Le Sueur with Rev. Kent Meyer officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17 at the Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur. Interment will be in Dresselville Cemetery in Sharon Twp., Le Sueur. Carl was born on April 6, 1930 to Arthur and Edna (Dressel) Nuessmeier in Le Sueur. He graduated from Le Sueur High School. He served in the Army from 1951 to 1953 and was a veteran of the Korean War, in which he served as a Staff Sergeant in the 25th Infantry Division. He married Elaine Rosendahl on November 22, 1956 in Columbus, NE. They lived in Nebraska and Wells, MN before moving back to Le Sueur in 1963 to take over the family farm, a Minnesota Century Family Farm. In addition to farming, Carl drove school bus for the Le Sueur School District for 32 years. He was an active member of Zion United Church of Christ and the VFW, for which he served in the Color Guard. He enjoyed reading, particulary military history. Carl loved animals, especially dogs, and enjoyed naming the pigs and telling humorous animal stories. He diligently recorded the day-to-day events in the life of the farm in journals for many years. The natural world of the farm and its woods and grasslands was a continual source of joy and inspiration to Carl. Carl is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Tim (Judy Helmeke) Nuessmeier of St. Peter, Tom Nuessmeier of St. Peter, Colleen McHugh of Marshfield, WI; granddaughter, Claire Nuessmeier; sister-in-law, Norma Nuessmeier of Le Sueur; and many nieces and nephews and their children. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Richard Nuessmeier, and sister, Betty Gibson.
