Carol M. Stier, age 83 of Belle Plaine and formerly of St. Peter and Pipestone died on Friday, March 25, 2011 at the Belle Plaine Lutheran Home. Funeral services are on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine. Interment will be in the Resurrection Cemetery in St. Peter. Visitation is two hours prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. She was born on December 26, 1927 in Ruthton, Minnesota to Howard and Anna (Kroeger) Sumption. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended Ruthton school, completing the 8th grade. She married Ernest Sumption on July 21, 1945. To this union 4 children were born, two died in infancy. For many years Carol worked for Armor and Company in Pipestone and also worked as a waitress at the V. F. W. On March 19, 1968 she married Henry DeWitte and they moved to St. Peter where Hank became head cook at Gannon's and Carol worked for the Larson Ski Factory, ADC Products and Midwest Electric where she retired after 18 years. While living in St. Peter, Carol was active in her church, St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran where she was President of the Brea Circle and served on the Altar Guild. Hank died on July 18, 1987. On February 10, 1990 she married Elmer Stier and moved to Belle Plaine and became a member of St. John Lutheran Church. She was active in the Mary Ruth Circle, Chairperson of the Altar Guild and enjoyed Bible Studies. She loved to read, and enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two children, her parents, two husbands and two sisters. Carol is survived by her husband, Elmer; son, Kurt (Anna) Sumption of St. Peter; daughter, Karen Weckwerth of Waseca, three brothers, Emery Sumption of Cambridge, Leroy (Delores) Sumption of Rosholt, SD and Russell (Mary Ann) Sumption of Alexandria; two sisters, Irene Larson and Dory Rusk of Alexandria. Also four step-children, Carol (Larry) Hartman of Windom, Lois Plantikow of St. Louis Park, Dale (Susie) Stier of Belle Plaine and Lynne (Archie) Gross of LeSueur, along with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
