Cecil Merle Olson

Cecil Merle Olson, 80, of Belle Plaine, Minnesota and formerly of Hudson, Iowa, passed away on November 29, 2017. Funeral service will be held at St. John's United Church of Christ in Bongards, Minnesota (rural Norwood-Young America) on December 9, 2017 at 11:00 with visitation 1 hour prior. Cecil was born in Waterloo, IA to Chester Olson and Vesta Faulkner on September 14, 1937. He became a skilled electrician for 35 years and was a member of I.B.E.W. Local 288 in Waterloo. Cecil enjoyed building and making things come together in harmonic balance. He married Jan Squires in August of 1982. After retiring, he chose to try his hand at a lifelong dream of farming. The farm was a place of peace for him. He loved traveling, chatting with anyone who crossed his path, working in the yard, spending time with family, and his pooches Putz and Spark. He served proudly in the National Guard of Iowa for 8 years. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Jan of 35 years; children, Robin Olson, Trisha Olson of IA, Russ Squires of IA, Carrie Hedin (Dan) of MN, and Jeff Squires (Jill) of MN; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Ray Johnson; son, Craig Olson; and brother, John Johnson.
