The Reverend Charles Owen Dundas, known to all as Charlie, of Mankato, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, at the age of 89.
A funeral service to celebrate Charlie's life will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Le Sueur, MN. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur. Interment will follow at Mound Cemetery in Le Sueur, MN.
Born on July 27, 1935, in Huntington, West Virginia, to Owen and Verdie (Phelps - Stiltner) Dundas, Charlie's early life took him to live with his three aunts, Goldie, Viva, and Elizabeth, after the passing of his father. He later moved with his mother & step-father to Tucson, Arizona, where he graduated high school in 1952. Charlie pursued his undergraduate studies at Marshall University before earning a Masters in Divinity from Duke University's Seminary School. It was at Duke that he met the love of his life, Anne Marie Ragsdale; he always said it was love at first sight. They married on December 29, 1959, in Easley, South Carolina.
Charlie and Anne began their life together in Money Creek/Ridgeway/Witoka, MN, where he received his first appointment with the United Methodist Church and where their family soon began to grow. Together, they welcomed three children and created countless memories traveling the across the country for weeks at a time, visiting loved ones and exploring new places – a passion that remained with him throughout his life. Alongside his love for travel, Charlie also enjoyed “going digging” for collectible glass bottles in unexpected places (outhouse pits!), and was always a supportive partner of Anne’s Brick House Antique store.
A devoted fan of Marshall, Duke, and Minnesota sports, Charlie also found pleasure in watching and playing golf. His daily routine often included cherished morning walks, coffee, and reading the newspaper with friends at Nelson’s Bakery in Le Sueur, Hardey’s West in Mankato, and ‘Greeks’ in Rosemont. Next to his family, his true passion was supporting the congregations he served for over 50 years; he built relationships with parishioners at his churches in Money Creek/Ridgeway/Witoka, MN, Stewartville, MN, Le Sueur, MN, District Office in Mankato, MN, Rosemont, MN, Norwood Young America, MN, and Prior Lake, MN.
Charlie is lovingly remembered by his children, Owen (Lori) Dundas of Mankato, MN, John (Melissa Plotnick) Dundas of Nisswa, MN, and Mary Anne Dundas of Mankato, MN; his grandchildren, Kristina (Bennett), Alex, Charlie (Kim), Grace (Tyler), Cory (Kyley), and Travon; and his six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Verdie & Owen, his beloved wife, Anne, a still-born son Richard Dundas, and his twin brother, Carlton Dundas.
