Daniel L. Murphy

Daniel L. Murphy, age 89 of Belle Plaine died on February 18, 2015 at the Lutheran Home surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2015 at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. on Sunday at the Kolden Funeral Home and will continue Monday one hour prior to the mass at church. Fr. Brian Lynch will officiate. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Memorials preferred to OLP Forward in Faith Building Fund, Belle Plaine School District 716-Dollars for Scholars or to donor's choice. Dan was born November 6, 1925 in Hopkins, MN to Daniel and Mary (McCloskey) Murphy. He was raised on the family farm near Blakeley. He attended country schools and Henderson High School. He served his country during WWII serving time in the Philippines and Japan. On October 7, 1952, Dan married Mary Pat Duffy at St. John Catholic Church in Faxon Township. They had 6 children, Mary, Colleen, Tim, twins: Sharon and Sheila, and Terry. He retired from Continental Machines in 1990.He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Belle Plaine. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Sheila Ferraro, his parents and brothers, Vincent, Leo, John and James. Dan is survived by his wife, Mary Pat of Belle Plaine; Children, Mary (Bruce Morgenstern) Murphy of Phoenix, AZ, Colleen (John) McCreight of Chanhassen, Tim Murphy of Belle Plaine, Sharon (J.D.) Burns of Maple Grove, Terry (Gina) Murphy of Shakopee; Son-in-law, Phil (Brenda) Ferraro of Columbia, MD 12 grandchildren; sister, Mary (Clarence) Anderson of Ellsworth, WI; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Michael (Marge) Duffy and Patrick (Emilie) Duffy; and nieces and nephews.
