Daniel D. Scherber

Jul 26, 1966 — Aug 24, 2026

Blakely Township

Daniel “Danno” D. Scherber, age 60, of Blakely Twp, passed away peacefully at the age of 60, surrounded by the faint smell of WD-40, fresh cigarette smoke, and the sound of his favorite classic rock tunes playing directly from his iPad. A celebration of life for Danno will take place Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Sparetime Tavern in Belle Plaine from 12-4.

Danno was born on July 26, 1966, to LeRoy and Rosemary (Smisek) Scherber in Edina. Danno lived life in the fast lane, splitting his time between running the trucks and towing wrecks across town. To most people, a pile of twisted metal, broken lawnmowers, and mismatched hubcaps looked like trash. To Danno, it looked like pure potential. He spent his life managing the junk yard, a place where he didn’t just sell spare parts – he handed out life advice and quick-witted one-liners. He was legendary during neighborhood BBQ days, where he made sure every kid in sight had a freezie in hand to beat the heat.

When he wasn’t out in his trusty tow truck clearing the roads, he could usually be found in his favorite chair – which was completely ready to fall apart – smoking a cigarette, drinking a hot cup of coffee, blasting old-school music from his iPad, and keeping the party going.

Danno and Brenda Barlage were together for many years and would later separate. They remained very close and though their relationship ended, he inherited her four children and many grandchildren and cared for them as if they were his own.

Danno is survived by his sister, Suzie (Brad) Borchardt; niece and nephews, Haley (Brandon) Hoskins, Dillan Borchardt, Blaine Borchardt, and Alexander Borchardt; ex-partner, Brenda Barlage; children, Angela (Mitch) Florea, Tammy Fahey, Jessica Barlage (Drew Neville), and Nickolas (Ashley) Barlage; and grandchildren, Yesenia (Cody), Mariana, Eliza, Rheaya, and Ava, Madelyn, Lyla, and Leo, and Aiden and Addy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Rosemary (Smisek) Scherber; nephew, Logan Borchardt; and many fur babies.

He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, loud music, and a yard full of treasures that will ensure he is never forgotten. Danno will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and everyone who ever stopped by for a spare part and left with a smile.
