Delroy Martin Kurtzweg, age 91 of rural Arlington, died on Sunday morning, August 17, 2025, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Funeral service will be on Monday, August 25, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 24, 2:00 p.m. ~ 4:00 p.m. Kolden Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St. Arlington, MN. Visitation will continue at church for one hour prior to the service on Monday morning. Burial with Military Honors will be at Arlington Public Cemetery. Lunch will follow the burial service at church. Pastor Matthew Rauh will officiate the services.
Del was born on July 17th, 1934 in Green Isle Township, Sibley County to Bernardt and Elsa (Laabs) Kurtzweg. A lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington, he was baptized by Rev. Robert Heidman on 7/29/1934 and confirmed by Rev. John Bradtke on 3/21/1948. He attended a country school and graduated from Arlington High School in 1952. Del worked on the family farm until being drafted by the US Army and served from 1957 to 1959 being honorably discharged.
After returning home, he continued to farm. Del married Elizabeth Hjortsberg in 1963 in St. Paul, MN. They were blessed with six children. The couple divorced in 1985. Besides farming, Del worked at Big Stone Canning, Young America Corp., and for two seasons at Canterbury Downs. He enjoyed fishing with everyone including Veterans on the Water. Del also loved playing cards with family and friends. Birthdays were a happy, festive occasion for him, especially his own. Del was also a lifetime hunter and Gopher basketball fan. He will miss his special friend, Helen Bernstein of Gaylord, MN.
Del is survived his children, Michael (Tracy) Kurtzweg of Apopka, FL, Daniel Kurtzweg of Long Lake, MN, Steven (Kelly) Kurtzweg of Maple Grove, MN, Cindy (Matthew Young) of Medicine Lake, MN, Nicholas (Michelle Baldwin) Kurtzweg of Gaylord, MN and Gail (Jason) Redeker of Inver Grove Heights, MN. He is survived by eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Lois Kube.
Del would like to thank the VA in Minneapolis for the excellent care he received. Memorials are preferred and directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Arlington, MN. He will be missed by all who loved him. Del wishes everyone to Keep the Faith.
