Dennis W. Ross, 81 of Le Sueur, MN, passed away at his home December 3rd, 2023 after a sudden illness.
He was born on Feb 21, 1942, to Walter and Elizabeth Ross. Dennis graduated from Morris High in 1960 and attended the U of M Morris. He developed a love of bowling, billiards, basketball & golf. In 1962, Dennis joined the US Air Force and moved to Albuquerque, NM. He married Sharon Johnson on Feb 23, 1963. During his Air Force career, Dennis qualified for two USGA Public Links Championships and won several Air Force golf tournaments. In 1966 Dennis enrolled in Arizona State University. He graduated with a BS in Mathematics and got a job in General Electric’s computer division. While at ASU he qualified and played in the PGA Phoenix Open. Dennis & Sharon had 2 children, Dana Kristine and Jon Walter.
In 1970, Dennis accepted a position at Green Giant as a Computer Systems Analyst in Le Sueur, Mn where they moved and raised their family. Dennis and Sharon were lifelong members of Le Sueur Country Club. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, enjoyed playing Bridge and enjoyed yearly family vacations golfing and fishing up in Alexandria Mn. He was a loving husband, father & mentor. He was known for his witty charm and dry sense of humor.
In 1992, age 50, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of playing on the Senior golf tour. In 1996, he qualified to play in the USGA Senior Open in Ohio at Canterbury Golf Club. The highlight was Jack Nicklaus coming to visit our lunch table and greeting us.
Dennis and Sharon spent 10 years wintering at Trilogy Golf Resort in Gilbert AZ. They renewed their wedding vows on September 16, 2015, in a private backyard wedding. He so enjoyed the evening sunsets, bird watching and views from his home on Ridge Rd. As a lifelong student of the game of golf, Dennis ended up winning in 14 states in the U.S and Canada and 43 Minnesota cities. His last major golf accomplishment was at age 75 during the LSCC Senior Club Championship. He was able to shoot an amazing 8 under par 64 with poor eyesight, which included his 5th Hole in One. “It was the most perfect round of my career” he said. His wife Sharon, later said in tears, “It was the best round I have ever seen him play, I was so nervous, I didn’t Dare say a word.” Dennis and Sharon are together again.
He is survived by his daughter Dana Ross-Arlt and son in law Arnie Arlt, brother Dick Ross, Sister-in-Laws, Darlene Ross, Shirley Squier and Arlene Osen, Brother-in-Laws, Richard Osen & LeRoy Greiner, Daughter-in-Law, Cathy Kessler, Grandchildren, Allie Mosley (Kiel), Abby Mershon ( Dustin), Blake Kessler , 4 Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jon, his brother Ken, sister Karen and wife Sharon.
Celebration of Life will be at the LeSueur Country Club Dec. 17th, Sunday, Noon-3:00 p.m. Military Honors to follow.
