Donald Pomplun, 80, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine. Memorial Service will be at 11a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at the Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington. Rev. Ed Fredrich will officiate. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday morning. Interment will follow the service at Arlington Public Cemetery.
Donald was born in Gaylord on December 12, 1945 to Edward and Ella (Oldenburg) Pomplun. He grew up on the family farm. He married Luanne Ellies on September 15, 1968 at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Arlington. The couple resided in Arlington and had one son. Don worked for Arlington Concrete Products/Cemstone for over 40 years. He also milked cows for various local farmers throughout the years. You were sure to see him walking his dog (the one he had at the time) throughout town, regardless of the weather!
He served in the Army from Dec. 1965 until Feb 1968. He was stationed at Fort Benning in Georgia as a cook.
His hobbies included flower gardening, woodworking, working on old tractors and tinkering on things-whether or not it was right or wrong (his own words). He enjoyed a wide variety of music from classical to country. He loved dancing and roller skating (in his younger years). He also enjoyed his train sets. He also liked a good argument; he knew just what buttons to push to instigate one just because he could, then later give that ‘devilish’ grin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers, Melvin, Roger and Earl; sisters, Doris Petzel and Annie Lind, brothers in law, Earl Petzel, David Wagner, Lyle Schoelkoph.
He is survived by his son, Tom (Vicki) Pomplun
Granddaughters, Mackenzie and Sammie.
Siblings, Richard (Sharon) Pomplun, Marjorie Wagner, Linda (Gary) Hahn, and Steve Pomplun
Sisters in law, Patrica Pomplun, Geraldine Pomplun, Lila Schoelkoph
and many nieces and nephews.
