Donna B. Schmidt

Donna Schmidt, age 81 of Blakeley passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on December 30, 2013. Memorial service will be 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine. Rev. John Meyer will officiate. Visitation will be from 9am until service time at the church. A private interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine. Donna was born in Arlington, MN on May 11, 1932 to Albert and Sylvia (Dahlke) Lucht. She grew up and attended school in Arlington. She was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Arlington, MN on April 14, 1946. On April 9, 1955 she married Leo "Skip" Schmidt at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Arlington. They farmed and raised their six children near Blakeley, MN. They moved back to Blakeley Village in 1987 where they spent their retirement years. She was employed at the Belle Plaine Lutheran Home for over 30 years in Housekeeping. She was involved in the Hospitality Committee at Trinity Lutheran Church and also belonged to the VFW Auxiliary. She loved cooking, baking, bargain shopping, reading, bird watching, flowers and watching Wheel of Fortune. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Skip in December of 2012; grandson, Peter Malz; brother, Harlan Lucht and his wife Evelyn. Donna is survived by her Sons: Lee Schmidt (special friend, Gloria Brandt), Wayne (Sandra) Schmidt, Scott Schmidt (special friend Tammy Lange), and Daniel (Kristin) Schmidt; Daughters: Debra (Ralph) Malz and Diane (Mark) Kes; Grandchildren: Jeanne (Jeff) Mediger, Matthew (Heather) and Angela Kes, Gregory (Kristin), Jeffrey and Karl Schmidt, Ryan, Nicholas (fiancee, Kelsey Hoisington) and Luke Schmidt; Great Grandchildren: Preston, Bailey and Carter Kes; Many relatives and friends including special friend, Arlene Albrecht.
