Dorothy 'Dort' Hamilton

Dorothy ‘Dort' Hamilton, age 70 of Le Sueur, died Friday, June 15, 2012 at her home in Le Sueur. Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 20 at the First Lutheran Church in Le Sueur. Rev. Charles Plaster will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Private interment will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Dort was born on October 27, 1941 to Raymond and Mae (Olson) Richardson in Willmar, MN. She graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead in 1967 with a BA in Education. She married Jim Hamilton on August 10, 1968 at Westwood Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park. They moved to North Dakota where she had taught in Fargo and in Langdon. They had their first child, Jason, in 1970. They then welcomed their second child, Jenny, in 1972. In 1975 they moved to Valley City, ND where they welcomed their third child, James. While living in Valley City she had a store called Booktique where she sold children's books. They then moved to Le Sueur in 1980. From there she worked at Citizens Scholarship Foundation of America where she held a Data Entry position. She eventually worked her way up and retired from being the National Director of Sales and Marketing in 2008. Dort enjoyed traveling all over, especially to Cabo. She dearly enjoyed her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and playing Words with Friends. She was a PEO Sister. She was actively involved with the First Lutheran Church, Church Choir and The Noteables. She was also involved with the Hospital Auxiliary, the Le Sueur Bag Ladies and Community Theater. Dort is survived by her husband, Jim Hamilton; children, Jason (Amy) Hamilton of Olathe, KS, Jenny Hamilton of Woodbury and James (Marybeth) Hamilton of Blaine; grandchildren, Luka, Max, Stella, Parker, Haiden and Piper; and brother, Dr. William (Renate) Richardson of Plymouth. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Donald Richardson. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations be sent to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in Dort's name: 3001 Metro Dr. Suite 100, Bloomington, MN 55425.
