Dorothy Frances Mathwig, age 87 passed away on Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Ecuman Nursing Home in Litchfield, Minnesota. Funeral services will be 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Green Isle. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25 at the Kolden Funeral home in Arlington and continuing one hour prior to the Funeral service at the Church on Wed. Interment will be in the Arlington Public Cemetery, Arlington. Dorothy Frances (Hoppe) Mathwig was born December 21, 1926, to John and Hannah (Sellnow) Hoppe in Blakely Minnesota. Dorothy was baptized on January 9, 1927 by Pastor C. T. Kock and confirmed on June 9, 1940 at Centennial Lutheran Church, Henderson by Pastor John Busch. Dorothy grew up in the Blakely and Henderson Minnesota area and graduated from Henderson High School in 1945. On October 22, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage to Ernest Mathwig in Austin Texas. They moved to Waukegan, Illinois for two year and then moved to Green Isle and farmed until 1995. After Ernest passed away in 2001 Dorothy moved into Highland Commons in Arlington. Later to Fairview Assisted Living in Arlington. As Dorothy's health declined she moved to the Ecuman nursing Home. Dorothy loved her flowers and being outside on the farm, Dorothy also enjoyed traveling. Dorothy really enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Green Isle and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Green Isle, and Ladies Guild. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Bonita (Richard) Tuchtenhagen, eight sons, Warren, Ellerd (Barbara), Bruce (Lorinda), John (Althea), Mark (Barbara), Eric (Bev), Ross (Kristina) and Paul (Susan). A brother, Earl Hoppe and his wife Mary, two sisters, Joan (Gene) Wieland, Alvera Carufel. Brother and sister-in-laws, Walter and Eileen Mathwig, Gilbert and Gladys Mathwig, Chester and Betty Mathwig, Elsie Sturm. 31 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren. There are numerous Nieces and Nephews. Dorothy was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, brother and sisters, brother and sister-in-laws and great grandchildren.
