Earl C. Anthony

May 2, 1920 — March 25, 2012

Earl C. Anthony, 91, died Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Benedictine Living Community of St. Peter with his daughter, son, and grandson by his side. Earl was born May 2, 1920, in Granada, Minnesota, to Louis and Clara Anthony, the fifth of six children. After graduating from Winnebago High School, he attended Mankato State Teachers College. He met his wife Helen in a library line at the college. Shortly after the outbreak of World War II, he enlisted in the Army, serving 4 ½ years as a medic in Panama and Hawaii. Upon his return from war, he and Helen were married on April 17, 1946. After graduating from Mankato in 1948 with a double major in Chemistry and Industrial Arts, Earl began a 34 year teaching career at Le Sueur High School. Two years before his retirement, his beloved wife, Helen, passed away in 1980. Earl spent his retirement years enjoying his home and property, potted plants, German Shepherds, visits from his children, and correspondence from his "family of former students." His passion for life-long learning continues with his children, grandchildren, and those whose lives he touched. Earl is survived by his daughter Carol (Barry) Helland of Aurora; his son Paul (Pam) Anthony of Burnsville; three grandchildren, Melissa, Heather, and Gregg; four great-grandchildren, Phoenix, Paxton, Loudon, and Arden; and his cousin, Darwin Anthony. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Minnie, Iva, and Isabel; two brothers, Arthur and Paul; his wife Helen and son Scott. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 5, 1:00, at United Methodist Church, Le Sueur.
