Earl Reinhold Pomplun

Earl Reinhold Pomplun, age 84, of Gaylord, formerly of Arlington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at Bayside Manor in Gaylord. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Arlington with Pastor Craig McCourt officiating. Visitation will start two hours prior to the service. Interment with military honors will occur at a later date.

Earl was born on January 7, 1941, to Edward and Ella (Oldenburg) Pomplun on the family farm in Arlington Township. He grew up on the farm and attended Gaylord High School before helping his family on the farm full time. Earl was drafted in the United States Army in 1963. Shortly after being discharged, he met and fell in love with Betty Bonderson. They were wed on January 28, 1967, at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop. Earl took over the family farm where they managed 160 acres of farmland, dairy cattle, and other livestock. There Earl and Betty would raise their daughter, Valerie. 

In his younger years, Earl loved to ride horses, go dancing, roller skating, and attend threshing events across Minnesota. He also loved watching western shows and completing word search puzzles. He loved to tell stories of the old days being in the army, working on the family farm and neighboring farms.

Earl is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter Valerie (Kevin) Kube; grandchildren Austin Kube, Taylor (Fiancé Collin Kranz) Kube; great-grandchildren Cash Kube and Aven Kube; siblings Richard (Sharon) Pomplun, Donald Pomplun, Marjorie Wagner, Linda (Gary) Hahn, and Steve Pomplun; sister-in-law Barbara Pettis, Pat Pomplun, Geraldine Pomplun; brothers-in-law John Bonderson, Rodney Lind, and Lyle (special friend Janelle Katzenmeyer) Bonderson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law Arthur and Maybelle Bonderson; brothers Melvin Pomplun and Roger Pomplun; sisters Doris Petzel and Annie Lind; sisters-in-law Luanne Pomplun, Helen Bonderson, and Lois Lange; brothers-in-law Earl Petzel, David Wagner, Kenneth Pettis, Ray Lange, Carl Bonderson; nephews Jeff Pomplun, Doug Pomplun, Eric Hahn, and David Lange; and niece Barb Maggard.
