Rev. Edward J. DePree, age 84 of St. Peter, formerly of Cleveland and LeSueur MN, died on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011 at the Benedictine Living Center in St. Peter, Minnesota. He was born on January 7, 1927 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Peter and Maybelle (Wenzel) DePree. He moved with his family as a youth to Philadelphia. Edward entered the U. S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine at the age of 16. After his discharge he entered the Philadelphia College of Bible. He married Rose Marie Hambach on October 13, 1944 in Jenkintown, PA. Rev. DePree worked as a sales representative and also ministered in a local church. In 1959 he and his wife, Rose began training as missionaries. In 1961 they served as missionaries in Brazil for five years and later served in Puerto Rico for ten years. He enjoyed music, visiting and spending time with people and was fluent in Portuguese and Spanish. He is survived by his children; John (Traci) DePree of Le Sueur, Joanne (Joe) Linder of Los Angeles, CA and Dianne DePree of St. Paul. 8 Grandchildren, Karl and Jason Linder, Chris Huch, Amy Kallenberg, Samantha, Caitlin, Megan, Haley, Willow and Jem DePree and 5 great-grandchildren, Mandy, Riley, Shainey and Kiley Huch and Jack Linder. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose in April of 2001, a son Edward J. DePree, Jr., 1 brother and 1 sister. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at the Kolden Funeral Home in LeSueur from 6 to 8 p.m.. Family graveside services will be held at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis
