Edward A. Winter

March 18, 1927 — August 20, 2013

Edward A. "Ed" Winter, age 86 of LeSueur, Minnesota died on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at the Minnesota Valley Health Center in LeSueur. He was born on March 18, 1927 in Henderson Township, Sibley County to Alphonse and Lillian (Nelson) Winter. He attended District 3 country school. At age 18 he was drafted into the U. S. Army and began basic training in Camp Fannin in Tyler, Texas. He served in World War II in Europe, mostly in Austria. After his honorable discharge he married Doris Baringer on October 16, 1954 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Henderson. He drove truck for a time and then worked for the Heinsohn Dairy and Oak Grove Dairy for 11 years. He then began a 25 year career as a custodian at the LeSueur Public Schools. Ed and his wife were also custodians at the United Methodist Church in LeSueur for 23 years where he also served on various committees and served as a usher. He was also a member of Pioneer Power, charter member of the LeSueur Bird Club and honored as a 50 year member of American Legion Post 55 where he volunteered his time and was on the LeSueur Honor guard. He was a life member of the LeSueur Historical Society and the LeSueur Museum where he served as president. He enjoyed family vacations, spending time with family and grandchildren and had a knack for visiting with neighbors, friends or anyone on the street . Ed was interested in old time music, bird watching and enjoyed Doris's flower gardens. His grandchildren enjoyed his stories of growing up and his service to his country. Ed is survived by his wife, Doris Son. Bruce (Denise) Winter of Mankato. Daughters, Joyce (Jon) McCargar and Nancy (Jim) Halbmaier of LeSueur. 6 Grandchildren, Dirk (Cari) McCargar, Sasha McCargar, Nichole Halbmaier, Nathan Halbmaier, Jason (sp. friend, Sammy Anderson & her son, Kaleb) Winter and Brian (sp. friend,, Allyson Untiedt) Winter. 3 Great Grandchildren, Lily, Piper and Toby McCargar. Brother, Donald (Beverly) Winter of Inver Grove Heights Sister-in-laws, Mary Ann Baringer and Pat Baringer. Many nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in LeSueur. Interment, with military rites by the LeSueur Honor Guard, will be in the Elim Welsh Cemetery in Ottawa Township. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Kolden Funeral Home in LeSueur and one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
