Elmer L. Wentzlaff, age 89 of Gaylord, died Sunday, September 12, 2010 at the Oak Terrace Health Care Center in Gaylord. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Arlington. Fr. Jerry Paulson will officiate. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in the Arlington Public Cemetery in Arlington. Elmer was born on December 6, 1920 to August and Clara (Brockhoff) Wentzlaff in Jessenland Twp., Sibley County, MN. He was confirmed on April 14, 1935 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Green Isle. He entered WWII on October 21, 1942 and was discharged on October 17, 1945 as a Corporal. He married Berniece Robeck on September 18, 1946 at St. Brendan's Church in Green Isle. He was a self employed mechanic doing business as Wentzlaff Repair as well as farming in Arlington Township. For serving in the Battle of Normandy he received the Jubilee of Liberty Medal on March 16, 2002 from Congressman Mark Kennedy. He was a member of St. Arthurs Council K of C and VFW Post 6031 in Arlington. He liked wood-crafting, fishing and playing cards. He enjoyed his grandchildren dearly. Elmer is survived by his wife, Berniece; children, Shirley (Arvid) Soeffker of Arlington, Gary (Sandy) Wentzloff of Gaylord and Karen (Gary) Johnson of Gaylord; grandchildren, Mark (Marcy) Soeffker of Gaylord, Michele (James) Krueger of Michigan, Kari (Tom) Bartz of Robbindale, MN, Denver Wentzloff of California, Jacob and Angie Johnson of Gaylord; great-grandchildren, Mitchell Soeffker, and Corinne, Nathan and Katelyn Krueger. He is preceded in death by his infant son.
