Evelyn Merrick

Evelyn M. "Ev" Merrick, Age 90, of LeSueur passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2014, at Comfort First Assisted Living with her hospice angel and her assisted living companion holding her hands and with her daughters' voices encouraging her peaceful journey home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the LeSueur United Methodist Church. Rev. Luke Nelson will officiate. Interment will be in the Mound Cemetery in LeSueur. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kolden Funeral Home in LeSueur and one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. Memorials are preferred to the Mayo Hospice or to the donor's choice. Ev was born on October 7, 1924 in St. Paul, Minnesota to John and Evelyn (Bader) Chrest. She was raised in St. Peter and graduated from St. Peter High School and attended Gustavus Adolphus College. She married W. Hollis Merrick on May 28, 1949 and they lived in LeSueur all of their married lives. He preceded her in death in 1976. Ev was a homemaker and devoted much of her time volunteering at various organizations such as the LeSueur Hospital Auxiliary, which she helped found. She organized the Bridge Marathon, which was a fundraiser for the Hospital and also worked at the snack bar. She was an avid bridge player, helped deliver Meals on Wheels, loved to dance and watch Lawrence Welk. Ev enjoyed her time spent at the LeSueur Country Club and the Coachlight Supper Club with friends. Ev was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women and was in charge of changing altar paraments throughout the year. Survivors include her children, Nancy Merrick and her husband, Jerry Meyer of Apple Valley and Susan Merrick of Coon Rapids. 4 Grandchildren, Breelissa Hamilton, Zachary (Kelly) Hamilton, Erin Merrick-Hoehn and Lindsay (Kerrigan) Marois; 1 great-grandson, Levi Hamilton and brother, John (Shirley) Chrest of Winthrop. She was preceded in death by her husband, and a sister, Betty (Ray) Peterson.
