Evelyn Esther Alice (Roth) Gieseke, age 92, died on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson MN. Graveside service will be on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Arlington Township, Sibley County. Following the graveside service, there will be a celebration of Evelyn's life and lunch at St. John's Lutheran Church in Arlington Township, Sibley County to follow immediately after.
Evelyn was born on October 20, 1932 at Union Hospital in New Ulm, MN to Howard Roth and Frieda (Huse) Roth. She was baptized on November 20, 1932 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm, MN by Rev. Hinnenthal. Evelyn was confirmed on April 14, 1946 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm, MN by Rev. Hinnenthal.
Evelyn attended District 14 little red school house in Lafayette Township, St. Paul’s Parochial School in New Ulm and New Ulm High School. In 1980, she received her GED from Le Sueur High School. Evelyn worked at Big Stone, Fingerhut, Hands Inc., Sibley County Agriculture Association and Technical Services. Evelyn volunteered for Seniors Supporting Seniors, Sibley County Food Shelf and helped at her church, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Arlington.
Evelyn met her future husband, Lorenz Gieseke at her sister Myra’s wedding dance on November 17, 1945. They were married on October 2, 1948 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Brighton Township by Rev. Kunde.
Evelyn enjoyed her hobbies of reading, crocheting, crafts, cooking, baking, gardening, dancing and her love of music. A devoted farm wife and mother, she enjoyed having everyone over for hotdish, hosting a family reunion at the lake or playing cards with the neighbors.
Lorenz and Evelyn lived with family near Klossner until they bought their farm in Arlington Township, Sibley County in 1957.
Evelyn is survived by her brother Harold, her brother-in-law Vern Gieseke & his wife Myrt, her brother-in-law Jim Gieseke, her sister-in-law Marie Leinberger, her children: Larry (Jan) Gieseke of Arlington; Barb (John) Buss of Chandler, AZ; Deb Gieseke of Arlington; Mark Gieseke and fiancé Janice Kriz of Merrifield; Rodney Gieseke of Henderson; Vicki Messner of Norwood; and Pam Herrmann and fiancé Kurt Fossen of Belle Plaine as well as 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lorenz Gieseke, her son Glenn Gieseke, her daughter Lisa Gieseke, her grandson Jason Gieseke, and her great grandsons Alex Gieseke and Jacob Gieseke, as well as her brother Herman Roth and his wife Dorothy, her sister Myra Gieseke and her husband Ray, her sister Lola Henderson and her husband Kermit, and her sister-in-law Ethel Roth.
