Faye LaVonne King, age 101, formerly of Le Sueur, MN, Mesa, AZ, and Wayzata, MN went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 17, 2024. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025 with visitation one hour prior to the service at Excelsior Covenant Church in Excelsior, MN. Burial was private in Mound Cemetery, Le Sueur, MN.
Faye was born on July 10, 1923, to Herbert and Jeanette (Koenig) Henneman in Chippewa Falls, WI. She grew up in the Chippewa Falls area and graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1941. She attended Miss Woods Teachers College and was a kindergarten teacher for several years.
She married her husband Elmer Thurston on October 10, 1945. After Elmer’s death, she married Wesley King on September 10, 1949. The couple lived in Le Sueur until 1978 when they retired and moved to Mesa, AZ. Wesley died in 1980, and Faye returned to Minnesota in 2007. She was very active in all the churches she belonged to over the years and taught Bible study for 21 years at Leisure World in Mesa. She also enjoyed teaching water aerobics and swimming lessons while living in Leisure World. She lived the last 10 years of her life in Senior Living at Folkestone in Wayzata, MN, a Presbyterian Homes facility. She was active there in Bible studies, welcoming new residents, and being a friend to many.
She is survived by: her children Phillip (Sue) Thurston of Tempe, AZ, Connie (Jim) Volling of Wayzata, MN, and Glenna Gentile of Hibbing, MN; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sisters Twila (John) Wiegand and Donna Mae (Hoagy) Carmical, and daughter Sandra Granstrom McNeel.
Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to Excelsior Covenant Church, Samaritan’s Purse, or Folkestone Employee Appreciation Fund.
