 
            Fr. Richard Paul Roedel, age 80 of Belle Plaine died on July 16, 2012 at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2012 at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. Fr. Michael Kaluza will officiate. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Belle Plaine. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 19 at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine with a Knights of Columbus Rosary and Parish Prayer Service at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday, one hour prior to the mass at church. Fr. Roedel was born on April 9, 1932 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Frederick and Anna (Rashke) Roedel. He graduated from DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis in 1950. He attended minor seminary at Nazarath Hall in Arden Hills and major seminary at St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul. He was ordained on February 22, 1959. Fr. Roedel taught for 11 years at the Nazarath Hall Seminary and later served for 5 years at St. John the Baptist Church in Savage, 4 years at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in St. Paul, 12 years at St. Anne's Church in LeSueur, 6 years at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine and 12 years in the joint parishes of St. Scholastica in Heidelburg, St. Joseph's in Lexington and St. Thomas in St. Thomas. Survivors include his sister, Joan Fritchman of Farmington and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Roger, Don and Paul Roedel and a sister, Aileen.
