Frances Schmitt

Frances Schmitt, of Belle Plaine Minnesota, passed away August 26, 2016 while living at Kingsway Retirement Living in Belle Plaine, MN after suffering many years with Alzheimer's disease. Funeral service will be at 11a.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the Kolden Funeral Home Chapel in Belle Plaine. Deacon Bob Raleigh will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Reception and lunch will immediately follow at Kingsway Retirement Living in Belle Plaine. Frances was born to Frank and Rose Blohowiak on December 18, 1921 in DePere, Wisconsin. She attended High School (Go Redbirds) in DePere and after graduation moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to attend Mrs. Brown's Secretarial School. Frances was a lifelong member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority where she met many of her friends. While working at the Better Business Bureau and living in Milwaukee she met the Love of Her Life, Robert F. Schmitt. They married July 5, 1951. Frances and Robert lived in Milwaukee for a number of years before settling in Edina Minnesota where Frances enjoyed being a stay at home mom raising her three boys. After the boys were grown, she spent many years working for General Communications in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. Frances enjoyed traveling, tennis, golf, gardening and boating on Lake Minnetonka. Frances is preceded in death by her adoring husband Robert; son, Robert J. Schmitt, her parents, Frank and Rose Blohowiak; her sisters, Dorothy Wise, Rosemary Laes; and her brothers, Robert Blohowiak and infant Charles Blohowiak. She is survived by sons, Thomas (Julie) Schmitt, Green Bay, James (Pamela) Schmitt, Belle Plaine, grandsons, Brian Schmitt, Robert Schmitt & Steven Schmitt, granddaughters, Samantha & Elizabeth Schmitt, daughter-in-law, Pamela Schmitt, Hastings, siblings, Frank (Norma) Bahowiak, Wisconsin, Rita Dettmers, Maryland, Norbert Blohowiak, Texas & Ruth (Jerry) Wright, California, brother-in-law, George Schmitt, Wisconsin, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to recognize the staff at Kingsway for the loving and compassionate care given her during her eight year stays with them. You treated her like family. Bless you all.
