Frank Joseph Schwope, age 91 of Arlington, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Ridgeview Hospital in Waconia, MN, surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Arlington, MN, with Fr. Paul Timmerman officiating. Visitation will be in the church social hall from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. prior to Mass. Interment will follow at the church cemetery followed by a luncheon in the church social hall.
Frank was born to Frank and Paula (Weishaar) Schwope on June 15, 1934, in Henderson Township, Sibley County, MN. He moved to Arlington Township at a young age and grew up on the family farm and went to Arlington Township country school for 6 years before attending school in town. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1952. He farmed on the family farm and married Delores Seifert on October 13, 1956, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm, MN. Frank continued to farm in Arlington Township his entire life. He was active at St. Mary’s Church in Arlington and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in the St. Arthur Council. He also took care of St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery for over 40 years. Frank was dedicated to helping others as a donor to the Red Cross Blood Mobile anytime they were in the area and had given 21 gallons over his lifetime. Throughout his life he has been involved as a member of the board for Cenex and Sibley County extension for many years, a delegate for American Milk Producers Inc., and a member of the High Island Snowmobile Club. Together with his wife he enjoyed travelling throughout the U.S., to Germany, the Caribbean and Panama Canal. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, creating wood projects, gardening, making sure his bird feeders were well stocked and enjoying a game of cards with friends or family. He especially enjoyed being outdoors on the farm whether working or for pleasure and the time he spent with family and grandchildren.
Frank is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 69 years, Delores; children, Lorraine (Wendell) Terlinden of Darwin, MN, Richard (Sandy) Schwope of Green Isle, MN, Michael (Jean) Schwope of Arlington, MN, and Beth (Rick) Geis of Shakopee, MN; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 extended grandchildren; 3 extended great-grandchildren; 1 extended great-great-grandchild; sister, Nell Kaluza; and sister-in-law, Mary Schaaf
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Clara Pivec and Lucy Kauffman; and other relatives and friends.
