Gary Bandel

Gary Lee Bandel, age 68 of Belle Plaine, passed away peacefully on January 11th surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. Fr. Brian Lynch will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the Church. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Belle Plaine. Gary was born in Rochester MN on June 16th, 1947. Gary is preceded in death by his father, Newton Bandel, and brother Ron Bandel. He was a loving brother, husband, father and grandfather. Gary will be deeply missed by his wife Carolyn (Morrisette) Bandel, mother Ida Bandel, son Gary Lee Bandel, daughter-in-law Melissa (Thuening) Bandel, grandchildren Charlotte and Calvin Bandel, his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Gary was kind and gentle, and enjoyed people, both old friends and new. He was proud to have served his country in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged with a Purple Heart, among other medals. Gary worked for many years in the auto-body industry. He enjoyed classic car shows and rebuilding his own cars. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Gary and Carolyn loved to travel. This past fall they had completed the final leg of their exploration of the Oregon Trail. They enjoyed their vacations in Florida. The love of Gary's life the past few years were his grandchildren, Charlotte and Calvin. They have brought hours of joy to their grandparents.
