Genevieve Marie Schleif-Savage-Cords

Genevieve Schleif Savage Cords, 91 of Le Sueur, MN passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Kingsway Senior Living in Belle Plaine, MN.

She was born on Dec. 23, 1933, to Genevieve and Ethelbert (Jim) Schleif.

Genny grew up on a family farm near Comfrey, Minnesota with siblings Violet, Charlotte, Mary, Theresa, Dorothy, Chuck, Roz, and Gwen. Genny married Richard J. Savage on Dec 27th,1951 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Comfrey, and by Dec 31st, they reported to service at USAF Base in Waco Texas! Soon they were transferred to Anchorage, Alaska where Debby was born.  From there, Deanna was born at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas Nevada and Ricky and Brenda, Itazuke AFB, Japan.  Sadly, both Ricky and Richard preceded Genny in death in 1959.  Genny moved to Le Sueur Minnesota with her 3 little girls and a few months later, Judy was born in 1960.

The Lord was good to bring a widower into Genny’s life who had also lost a child and his wife.  In the fall of 1962 Genny married Allen Cords and gained two stepsons, Bruce and Brian Cords.  We all celebrated and welcomed the birth of Patty Cords to our family in 1963.  Yours, mine and ours.

Genny modeled and taught her family the value of serving others. Outside of taking care of her home and 7 children she volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Monday Club, Hospital Auxiliary, St. Anne’s Church and School, Garden Club, Le Sueur Historical Society, and Mayo House. She was an avid Bridge player, at times participating in three clubs.

In June of 2003 Allen preceded Genny in death and she continued to live out her days in Le Sueur and most recently Kingsway Senior Living in Belle Plaine.  We are deeply grateful to the wonderful staff, her new friends and the safe and beautiful environment this facility provided for Genny.

Genny is survived by her children Bruce Cords (Karen) Rosemount, MN, Brian Cords, Le Sueur MN, Debby Butters (Bill) White Bear Lake MN, Deanna Brushaber (Paul) Calgary, Alberta Canada, Brenda Savage (Denise), St. Paul MN., Judy Savage (Ira Becker), Rochester, MN.  and Patty Dawson (Rex), Le Sueur, MN. Genny’s legacy includes 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 7 of her 8 siblings. Genny is welcomed into heaven by her parents, Jim and Genevieve, Ricky, Richard, Allen and her sister Mary.

In the spirit of Genny’s charitable giving, donations to St. Anne’s School in Le Sueur, MN is preferred.

Visitation will be Thursday August 28, 2025, at St Annes church Le Sueur, MN beginning with an 8:15 a.m. C.C.W Rosary.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Luncheon will be served at St. Anne’s School, Le Sueur, MN immediately after Mass.

Burial will be at St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Comfrey, Minnesota on Friday August 29th. 10:30 a.m.

In loving memory of Genevieve, we reflect on a life beautifully lived with resilience and love. She modeled for us perseverance in crisis and an unwavering will to go forward.  Her love, wisdom, sassy wit and laughter will be missed. Forever cherished, forever loved.
