Gerald Hennen

December 9, 1929 — November 25, 2011

Gerald "Jerry" Hennen, age 81 of Belle Plaine, died peacefully on November 25, 2011. The Visitation and Memorial Service will be held at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine on Friday, December 23, 2011. The Visitation will be from 9:30a.m. until the time of Mass at 11a.m. on Friday, December 23, 2011. A luncheon will follow immediately after the Mass. Jerry was born December 9, 1929 in Spring Lake Township, Scott County to Lawrence and Cecilia (Theisen) Hennen, the fourth of ten children. He married the love of his life, Rosalia Wermerskirchen on June 9, 1951, and they were blessed with seven children. After his service in the Air Force, they moved and made their home in Belle Plaine where Jerry owned and operated the Skelly Gas Station. After he sold the gas station business, he worked for Gene Hayes Ambulance Service, Furniture Store and Mortuary. Jerry eventually purchased the furniture store from Hayes and operated Hennen Home Furnishings until his retirement. He was a longtime member of the Belle Plaine Chamber of Commerce and the Knights of Columbus. He also faithfully served as a member of his church's Parish Pastoral Council. He was a devoted, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and so loved spending time with family and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling, and was an especially avid card player, always up for a good card game. Jerry is survived by his children, Alan (Kathy) of Belle Plaine, Dale (Ellie) of St. Paul, Jane (Cliff) of Richfield, Keith (Kim) of Waconia, Bruce (Marlien) of Sequim, WA, Judy of Belle Plaine, and Suzanne (Allen) of Novato, CA. 17 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren. Brothers: Ron (Marion) Hennen, Alvin Hennen, Tom (Carol) Hennen. Sisters: Marlene (Milo) Walter, and Bea Simon. In-laws: Elaine Hennen, Helen Hennen, Richard Staack, and Placidus Wick. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rosalia, parents Cecilia and Lawrence, and brothers: Eldred and Don; sisters: Nellie and LaVonne; brother-in-law: Bill Simon. May Jerry rest in peace.
