Gilbert Brockhoff, age 89 of Arlington, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Arlington Good Samaritan. Funeral service will be at 11a.m. on Wednesday, June 15 at Peace Lutheran Church in Arlington. Rev. Kurt Lehmkuhl will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-8p.m. on Tuesday at Peace Lutheran and continue one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday morning. Interment with military honors will be in Arlington Public Cemetery. Gilbert "Gil" Brockhoff was born on June 17, 1926 on the family farm in Green Isle Township. He was the son of Edward and Malinda (Sauter) Brockhoff. Gilbert was baptized on July 11, 1926 at Zion Lutheran Church, Green Isle Township by Rev. Karl Reuter. Rev. Reuter also confirmed Gilbert in his faith as a youth on April 28, 1940 at the same church. Gilbert attended Green Isle Country School and Zion Lutheran Parochial School. In December, 1944 Gilbert entered the Army and served his country in WWII. He was in active duty at Okinawa and Korea and received an honorable discharge on December 11, 1946. Gilbert was united in marriage to Elaine Meyer on May 16, 1948. Gilbert and Elaine were blessed with two children, Diane and David. Gil lived and worked many years on the family farm in Henderson, Minnesota. He retired from farming and started working at Guy John Deere Implement in Arlington. December 1979 Gil and Elaine moved to Arlington, Minnesota. Later in his John Deere career, he became an employee of Teply Equipment of Glencoe, Minnesota. He worked there until his retirement in 1995. Gil and Elaine enjoyed those retirement years traveling the United States with their traveling companions, Gus and Audrey Goehl, they enjoyed their family and neighbors, watching their grandchildren's school activities, and maintaining a beautiful lawn and garden. Gil also loved baseball, playing cards and fixing anything and everything! Gil was diagnosed with signs of dementia in 2009 and he entered the Arlington Good Samaritan Center in September, 2011. He made many friends at the Nursing Home and received wonderful care. On Saturday, June 11th Gilbert passed away and entered heaven at 4:45 PM with his family surrounding him. Gilbert was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Arlington, Minnesota, a Legion Member and he worked many years for the Sibley County Fair Board. Gilbert is survived by his wife Elaine, his children Diane (Jim) Brown, Green Isle, Mn. and David (Laurie) Brockhoff , Henderson, Mn. Grandchildren: Chris (Megan) Brown, Brandon, S.D., Kim (Mike) Dhaene, Waconia, Mn., Christina Holmquist, Arlington, Mn., Austin Brockhoff, Henderson, Mn. Great Grand children: Will and Matt Brown, Adysen, Becca and Cullen Dhaene and Emily Holmquist. Siblings: Earl (Dorothy) Brockhoff, Arlington, Mn. , Sister-In-Law Violet Brockhoff, Arlington, Mn. and many nieces and nephews. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Malinda Brockhoff, Brother, Marvin Brockhoff. Father-In-Law and Mother-In-Law, Adolph and Esther Meyer, Brother-In-Law and Sister-In-Law, Harry and Luella Mueller Hafeman.
