Gilbert Fries

Gilbert Fries, age 82 of Belle Plaine, passed away on March 16, 2020 at his home in Belle Plaine.  A private burial will be held.  A public memorial service and lunch will be held at a later date yet to be determined.

Gilbert was born in Henderson on August 21, 1937 to George and Anna (Studerman) Fries.  He grew up in Henderson and attended Henderson High School.  He spent 9 years serving his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1954-1963.  On October 10, 1964 he married Jeanette “Jeanie” Long.  They raised 3 sons.  Gilbert worked for Chicago NW Railroad for 30 years and later Burlington Northern Railroad.  He enjoyed traveling, winters in Arizona, summers at camper in Waterville, hunting, reading and trips to casino.  He is preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and six sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanie,

Grandchildren, Nicole Spicer, Jeremy (Myra) Fries, Becca (Greg) Geis, Matt (Shalisha) Sandy, Kendra Fries, Bailey Fries (Chloe Franke), Casey Fries & McKenzie Fries

And 4 Great Grandchildren, sister, Alice Grohut and many nieces and nephews.
