Gladys I. Grice

Gladys I. Grice, age 92 of Maple Grove formerly of Le Sueur, died Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the J. A. Wedum Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Park. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23 at the United Methodist Church in Le Sueur. Rev. Dean Wolf will officiate. Interment will be in the Mound Cemetery in LeSueur. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Gladys was born on December 4, 1920 in Ottawa Township, LeSueur County to John and Ida (Deno) Schleeve. She graduated from Cleveland High School and attended 1 year of normal school achieving a teaching certificate. She taught elementary education at District 4 country school south of LeSueur for about 6 years. Gladys married William J. Grice on February 10, 1944 at the Methodist Church in LeSueur. They lived in the states of Georgia and Washington during Bill's military service. They purchased a farm in Sharon Township in 1958 and continued living there until retiring to LeSueur in 1989. Bill preceded her in death in 1996. Gladys was a homemaker on the family farm and was also the head cook at the Cleveland High School. Gladys was very involved in the United Methodist Church in LeSueur and proud of the fact that she was a charter member of the church as well as the oldest member. While in the LeSueur area she was a member of the United Methodist Women, Home Extension group, served as a Hospice volunteer and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. When she moved to Maple Grove, to be nearer her family, she made prayer shawls for Lord of Life Lutheran church and crotched baby hats and blankets for Abbort-Northwestern Hospital. Gladys is survived by her daughter, Mary (Jerry) Oldenkamp of Maple Grove and son, Don (Nancy) Grice of Hinckley; 7 grandchildren, John (Kari) Oldenkamp, Jennifer (Joe) Stecker, Jeffrey (Pam) Oldenkamp, Jill (Matt) Walker, Scott (Shawna) Grice, Amy Grice and Andrew (Amber) Grice and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, son, John Grice and a sister, Alice Rau.
