Helena M. Bird

Helena M. Bird, age 92 of Glencoe and formerly of Henderson, Minnesota died on Monday, November 08, 2010 at the Glencoe Regional Health Center. She was born on May 10, 1918 in Sibley County to George and Anna (Studemann) Fries. She attended country school. She married Henry C. Bird on September 29, 1940 at Centennial Lutheran Church in Henderson. Helena enjoyed quilting, crocheting, embroidering, puzzles, cooking, baking and gardening. She loved having her family near and especially the opportunity to care for the grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Carl H. (Sharon) Bird of Shakopee, daughters, Lois (Dennis) Schauer of Deerwood, Minnesota, Gloria (Roger) Hilgers and Judy (Jim) Madden, Sr. of Glencoe and Carol (Ron) Otto of Arlington. 17 Grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, 3 brothers, Gilbert (Jeanie) Fries of Belle Plaine, Art (Shirley) Fries of Delano and LeVehn (Judy) Fries of Bloomington, sister, Alice Gruhot of Crookston sons-in-law, Clinton Westphal and David Mathwig sisters-in-law, Eleanor Fries and Beverly Fries She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001; son, Milan; daughters, Phyllis Westphal and Deb Mathwig; granddaughters, Mariah Miller and Jenna Bird, 6 sisters, Annie Bird, Tillie Steinborn, Marie Chambers, Doretta Fries, Loretta Fries and Hilda Gorr and 4 brothers, George, Raymond, Ruben and Ervin Fries. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Centennial Lutheran Church in Henderson. Rev. Kurt Lehmkuhl will officiate. Interment will be in the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Arlington Township. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Kolden Funeral Home in Henderson and one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
