Irene G. Casey, age 91 of Mankato, formerly of Le Sueur died on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Ecumen Pathstone Living in Mankato.  Funeral Mass will be on Monday, February 6, 2023, 10:30 a.m., St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Le Sueur, MN. Visitation will be on Sunday February 5, 2023 beginning with a 2:45 p.m. C.C.W. Rosary followed by the visitation from 3:00 p.m. ~ 6:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue Monday morning at the Kolden Funeral Home, 8:00 a.m. ~ 10:15 a.m.  We will then process to St. Anne’s Church of the 10:30 a.m. Mass, burial will be in St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery, Le Sueur, MN.  Lunch will follow burial at St. Anne’s School in Le Sueur, MN.  Fr. Chris Shofner will officiate the Mass and services.

Irene was born on September 7, 1931 to John and Anastacia (Diem) Harkins in Tyrone Township, Le Sueur, County.  She graduated from Le Sueur High School in 1948 and worked as a legal secretary in Le Sueur from 1948 ~ 1953.  She married Robert Casey on May 2, 1953 at St. Anne’s Church, Le Sueur. Bob’s U.S. Navy duties took them to Washington D.C. in 1953 and Irene worked in administration on Capitol Hill.  Irene and Robert shared a respect for the land and environment which brought them back to Tyrone Township, Le Sueur County, MN.  They farmed together in Tyrone Township for 40 years.

Irene enjoyed family, friends and Irish visitors, ballroom dancing, downhill and cross-country skiing, world travels, gardening, golf, bridge, and sunny days on the tractor.  Irene’s most rewarding service was her floral ministry.

She is survived by her son; Patrick (Carol) Casey of Jordan, MN.  Daughters; Kathleen (Thomas) Skelly of Le Sueur, MN and Maureen Casey of Minneapolis, MN.  Daughter-in-law; Lori (Hopes) Casey of Le Sueur, MN.  Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren; sister, Marjorie (Wayne) Hergott, Brother-in-law, Bill Kain; sisters-in-law; Irma Casey, Colleen Deis, Suzanne (Paul) Lucas.  Special friends; Fr. Roger Hessian, Edward Bordeau, Linda O’Brien, Catherine Retka, Vi Savage, Jean Osborne, Kathleen Leen, Jennifer Palmer, Nellie Edwards and Judy Born. Nieces, nephews, God children and many relatives and other friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Husband Robert; son, Thomas; grandson, John Casey; Siblings; Amilda (Irv) Mussen, Lorraine (Joe) Murphy, Gladys (Louie) Lagerbauer, Mary Alice Kain and Clarence Harkins.  Sister-in-law; Kathryn Harkins, Nieces; Bonnie Lang, JoAnne Toonen, Mary Deis, Nephews; Russel and Kenny Harkins, Steve Kain and Mike Murphy; great-nephew, Conner Laughlin.
