James P. Kolter

James P. "Turk" Kolter, age 91, of Henderson died Friday, September 30, 2011 at his home in Henderson. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 7 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Henderson. Fr. Sam Perez will officiate. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service at church. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Henderson with Military Honors by the Henderson Legion Club. James was born on June 20, 1920 in Winona, MN to Jacob and Rose (Neigbor) Kolter. He grew up in the Winona area and attended Winona Schools. He spent much of his youth caddying in Winona where he developed his love for golf. He later served in the U.S. Army during World War II. James married Mary Bigaouette on January 15, 1944 at Camp White, Oregon. The couple lived in Winona for a short time after he returned home from the service then moved to Henderson, MN. Jim worked for many years with International Harvester for many years as a mechanic retiring in 1984. Some of the dealers he worked with were in Henderson, Meyer International Harvester in Le Sueur and he finished his career in New Prague, MN. Jim enjoyed his time tinkering in the garage with mechanical work after retirement and especially enjoyed his woodworking. He is survived by is children, Dave (Karen Culbert) Kolter of Henderson, MN, Nancy (Ron) Brandt of Prior Lake, MN and Jerry (Betsy) Kolter of Sandstone, MN; Grandkids,Cris (Steve) Gerster of Farmington, MN, Tricia (Dan) Hubley of Shakopee, MN, Michael (Jennifer) Kolter of Henderson, MN and Tom (Alexis) Kolter of Le Sueur, MN; Great-Grandkids,Brynn Gerster, Abby, Julia, Jude & Erin Kolter. He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
