James Thomason

James Thomason, age 67 of Prior Lake, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016 at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine. Funeral service will be at 3p.m. on Thursday, December 1, at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine. Rev. Mark Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be from noon till 3p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Belle Plaine. Jim was born in New Prague on October 21, 1949 to Robert and Evelyn (Schmidt) Thomason. He attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Belle Plaine High School. Jim enlisted in the Navy in 1969 and served on the USS Kitty Hawk air craft carrier for three years. He was honored to be the only man in his division to be chosen to be on the Kitty Hawk. He was given a Kitty Hawk driver's license and was certified to take control of the ship under normal conditions. His smart seamanship and attention to duty had earned his the license. He was very proud of this accomplishment. Jim loved to go to auctions, garage sales, fishing and just being outdoors. He loved to take his Fatboy Harley for rides throughout the country. He also enjoyed visiting the Schmidt families in Blakeley. Jim worked for Thermo King for 45 years. After two years of retirement he was diagnosed with mesothelioma in January 2016. He fought a long, hard battle. He spent the last week of his life at the Belle Plaine Lutheran home with his family at his side. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Jerry "J.T.", two nephews, Chad Ince and Scott Walerius. He is survived by his sisters, Beverley (Ray) Ince & Janice (John) Walerius and brother, Roger (Jean) Thomason all of Belle Plaine. Sister in law, Kim Thomason of Hot Springs, AR and many nieces & nephews.
