Janice L. Hentges

Janice L. Hentges, age 80 of Le Sueur, died Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at her home.  Memorial Mass will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2019 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Le Sueur.  Fr. Chris Shofner will officiate the Mass.  Visitation will be one hour prior at the church.  Following Mass, there will be a luncheon held at St. Anne’s School in Le Sueur.  Interment will take place on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1:00 p.m. in Algona, IA in Calvary Cemetery.

Janice was born on January 29, 1939 to Martin and Malinda (Schmidt) Meyer in Lotts Creek Twp., near Algona, Iowa.  She attended and graduated from Algona High School in 1956.  She married Merv Hentges on October 5, 1957 at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Algona.  She worked at the Algona High School as the secretary to the principal.  In 1965 she and Merv decided to move to Le Sueur, MN.  Once moving to Le Sueur she worked at the Midland Co-op doing clerical work.  She also worked in the Cafeteria at Green Giant for a few years, and as a Home Health Aide for Le Sueur County.

Janice enjoyed playing cards, and visiting the residents at the nursing home.  She loved baseball, especially watching her grandkids play.  Janice was pretty proud of the fact that she learned how to text and was then able to stay in contact with her friends and family.

She is survived by her husband, Merv; children, Joel (Kimiko) Hentges of Seattle, WA, Lori (Bob) Morgan of Virginia Beach, VA, Dave (Cheryl) Hentges of Lively Grove, IL, Alan “Al” Hentges of Savage, MN, and Brent (Missy) Hentges of Cold Spring, MN; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; siblings, JoAnn (Herbert) Hachbarth of Spirit Lake, IA, Helena Johnson of Denver, CO, and Linda (Kenneth) Ring of Grand Forks, ND; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Donald and Wayne Meyer.
