Janice Schense

Janice Helen Dahlke Schense, age 78 of rural Henderson, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021 at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine. Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine. Rev. Martin Bentz will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Belle Plaine.

Jan was born in New Prague on October 24, 1942 to Fred and Viola (Schultz) Dahlke.  She grew up in Belle Plaine and graduated from Belle Plaine High School. On February 24, 1961 she married Dick Schense at Trinity Lutheran in Belle Plaine, and together they raised their family west of Belle Plaine. Jan had a beautiful musical talent which she shared with others by singing in the Trinity choir, playing the piano for the residents at the Lutheran Home and Kingsway Retirement Living in Belle Plaine and Sand Prairie Assisted Living in St. Peter.

Jan is preceded in death by her parents Fred and Viola, stepfather Emil Ashauer, brother Robert Dahlke and grandson Jeremy Collins.

She is survived by her husband Dick, children Denise (Jim) Collins and Dwaine Schense, granddaughter Maggie Collins, sister, Fern Dahlke (Joe Tessmer), sisters-in-law Lois Modig & Donna Kliefoth, & nieces & nephews.
