Joan “Joanie” Culbert, 77, of Le Sueur, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on April 6, 1948, in St. Paul, MN, to Jerome and Marie (Capaul) Jereczek, Joanie was raised in Durand, WI, and graduated from Lakeville High School. She later made Le Sueur her home, where her passion for food, hospitality, and community truly took root.
Joanie dedicated much of her life to the food industry, working in various roles before realizing her dream of owning her own establishment. She became a beloved local figure through her work at The Welcome Inn, which she eventually purchased and transformed into Joanie’s Welcome Inn.
Known for her friendly nature and generous spirit, Joanie had a gift for making people feel at home. She was a hard-working, kind-hearted woman who always had a smile, a story, and a seat ready for anyone who walked through her doors. Joanie would later sell the Inn in 2013 but remained a presence in food establishments in Le Sueur.
Joanie is survived by her husband, Larry of Le Sueur; her children: Kenny (Jacqueline) Johnson of Temple, TX, Kris (Scott) Dolezal of Le Sueur, and Kim Johnson of Waseca; 10 grandchildren; and step-children, Duane Culbert and Sheila Weldon.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
